"Music Box Dancer", recorded in 1974, did not become a hit until the spring of 1978. By Christmas, it charted in Europe and Asia, then the following April in the U.S.A. it reached #1 on the pop chart, and the Top 40 country chart - exactly one year after starting its momentous climb! In 25 years, Frank Mills has recorded 23 albums, with three in the past year and a half. Frank Mills has received 11 platinum and 16 gold album awards, as well as 3 Canadian Juno's. He was voted best instrumentalist in Japan and received several U.S. awards including a Grammy nomination. To his credit are a number of national television shows on the CBC and CTV networks, and Frank has appeared on T.V. shows in Canada, the U.S.A., Japan, and in Europe. Frank performs about 50 concerts each year. In 1994 he performed in; Florida, Ontario, Alberta and B.C., and a series of Christmas concerts in Eastern Canada. Recently his U.S. profile increased with guest appearances on The Nashville Network, and the QVC cable network. His "Music Box Dancer Video" has been heavily played on MOR Music TV broadcasting Florida, and the new Celtic network in Boston. Widely known as a recording artist/television performer, Frank Mills is a composer first and foremost. Music Box Dancer has been recorded by such well-known pianists as Floyd Cramer and Eric Robertson, orchestrally James Last and 101 Strings. It was also recorded as a calypso rhythm by Germany's Roberto Delgado, a vocal version by the Ray Conniff singers, and in Sweden on accordion. In Japan, Music Box Dancer became number one three times within one year. First Frank's original instrumental, later in Japanese, and thirdly in Chinese. Other compositions recorded include; Prelude To Romance, The Poet and I, Love Me, Love Me, Love, and recently his Christmas tune, Somewhere A Child Is Sleeping. Sheet music sales of Music Box Dancer and Peter Piper have surpassed 3,000,000 copies worldwide, earning the distinction of the biggest selling sheet music in decades. |
